As someone who has worked within the education system, who has seen the light of creativity being extinguished from children with the standardized testing, the drive for perfection, the most idiotic act ever (No Child Left Behind), I agree wholeheartedly with Robinson.
Every year I taught I had at least one student who had given up, or was on the verge of it, because of the way the system is set up. Ours is a defunct education system; designed to meet the needs of a country during the industrial age, when it was designed. Things need to change.
Our country can no longer keep up, much less compete with other countries because we refuse to think outside the box.
I am hopeful this next administration will help to preserve The Arts and other methods of encouraging creativity and growth in our education system rather than forcing our children to put on blinders and run down the track.
Great commentary Dee - thanks! e
